How to delete similar photos and bursts on iPhone

For bursts, open the burst in Photos, tap Select, choose the shots you want to keep and tap Done, then choose Keep Only Favourites. For near-identical photos that aren't bursts, PhoneDiet groups shots taken moments apart and suggests the best one using on-device AI, so you delete the rest in one go.

Using iOS's built-in tools

  1. In Photos, open Media Types › Bursts.
  2. Open a burst, tap Select, tick the frames you want and tap Done.
  3. Choose Keep Only Favourites to remove the other frames.
  4. Near-identical photos that aren't bursts have to be compared by hand in the Photos grid.

The faster way with PhoneDiet

  1. Open the Similar Photos card (Premium). Photos taken within about 90 seconds that look alike are grouped.
  2. The suggested keeper is marked Best, based on sharpness, exposure and open eyes. It's a suggestion; tap to change it.
  3. Tap Delete to remove the rest after the iOS confirmation.

The analysis runs with Apple's Vision framework on your iPhone. Your photos are never uploaded.

Common questions

How does PhoneDiet pick the best photo?

It scores each photo for overall quality and, when there are faces, for face capture quality, such as open eyes and sharpness. The highest score is suggested; you decide.

Are screenshots included in similar photos?

No. Screenshots have their own Old Screenshots card.
